Matthew and Iris Strauss contributed a 5500 square foot Foundation Gallery to exhibit the artworks by deed recorded on August 27.
The Foundation re-appointed the slate of six Directors to its board including Hugh Davies, Executive Director, Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego (MCASD) and Derrick Cartwright, Executive Director, San Diego Museum of Art.
Strauss Family Trust loaned the Foundation four art works on August 21 and 11 more art works on August 28.
The Foundation conducted visiting museum and affinity art groups totaling 204 people, comprised of 15 visits including representatives of nine museums.
The Foundation purchased five works of art: Angelo Filomino (Death of Blinded Philosopher), The Starm Twins (Blot out the Sun 3), Jean Lowe (Love for Sale #5), Ryoko Suzuki (Nurse) and Ryoko Suzuki (Bunny).
In January, Matthew and Iris Strauss gifted 16 works of art to the Foundation as per separate roster and loaned seven more.
In September, Matthew and Iris Strauss gifted 20 works of art to the Foundation as per separate roster.
Matthew and Iris Strauss loaned 21 more works of art to the Foundation.
The Strauss Collection loaned its Yasumasa Morimura triptych to the Foundation. The Foundation then loaned the Morimura to the exhibition organized by the Louvre called “Ingres & the Moderns” on the event of his 150 anniversary. The art was exhibited in Quebec City, Canada, February 2 – May 31 and Montauban, France as part of a 300-page catalogue and 200 works. The Foundation was specifically credited in the exhibition loan agreement and catalogues as lender.
The Foundation loaned its Vanessa Beecroft VB53 video to MCASD for exhibition September 19 – January 4.
Art under control of the Foundation totaled 40 pieces (16 Strauss Collection gifts, three purchased, 21 Strauss Collection loans).
The Foundation purchased three works of art by Cosma Von Bonin, Farris McReynolds, and Asma Shikoh.
The Foundation granted as a gift Christian Boltansky to MCASD with permanent attribution to the Foundation.
The number of visitors to the gallery totaled 334 for the year, comprised of 14 visits including six museums, eight art groups, and the American Association of Museum Directors to both collections.
Strauss Family Trust loaned the Foundation three art works on January 1 for an indefinite period. The Foundation loaned its Vanessa Beecroft VB 53 video on July 9 to San Diego Museum of Art exhibition January 18 – May 8.
In December, Matthew and Iris Strauss gifted three works of art to the Foundation (Sarah Morris, Matt Mullican, Terry Winters).
Art under control of the Foundation totaled 46 pieces (16 Strauss Collection gifts, 6 purchased, 24 Strauss Collection loans, including one gift to MCASD).
The Foundation acquired two works of art by Angela de la Cruz and Zhang Huan.
The Foundation gifted art by Matt Mullican to MCASD with permanent attribution to the Foundation.
In December, Matthew and Iris Strauss gifted five works of art to the Foundation (Saint Clair Cemin, Donald Lipsky, Markus Lüpertz, Fabian Marcaccio, Sam Taylor-Wood).
The number of visitors to the Foundation Gallery totaled 345 for the year comprised of 16 showings including eight museum groups and six art-affinity groups.
Art under control of the Foundation: 49 art works (including 39 gifts from SFT and 10 purchases by the Foundation, including two gifts to MCASD).
The Foundation added Mary Beebe, Director of the Stuart Collection and Gallery at the University of California of San Diego, as Director and reappointed the other Directors for a total of eight Directors.
In December, Matthew and Iris Strauss gifted two works of art to the Foundation (Allan McCollum, Fred Wilson).
Strauss Family Trust loaned the Foundation its Yin Xiuzhen artwork on January 23 for the Foundation to loan to MCASD exhibition January 23 – May 13.
Strauss Family Trust loaned the Foundation two of its art works on June 1 for an indefinite period.
The Foundation acquired two works of art by Emilio Perez and Ross Bleckner.
The number of visitors to the Foundation Gallery for the year totaled 304 guests, comprised of 13 visits including six museum groups and eight art-affinity groups.
Art under control of the Foundation numbered 52 works of art (44 gifted by Matthew and Iris Strauss), 10 purchased with funds provided by Matthew and Iris Strauss, including two gifts to MCASD.
The Foundation loaned its Vanessa Beecroft VB 53 video to MCASD for exhibition, September 29 – 30.

In December 2012, Matthew and Iris Strauss gifted one work of art to the Foundation (Jörg Immendorff).
Art under control of the Foundation numbered 56 works of art (45 gifted by Matthew and Iris Strauss), 11 purchased with funds provided by Matthew and Iris Strauss, including two Foundation gifts to MCASD.
The number of visitors to the Gallery for the year was 391 guests, comprised of 21 visits including 11 museum groups and 10 art-affinity groups.
On March 31st, the Foundation accepted a request by Isabel Condoya Ferrer, Exhibition Director for Picasso Museu, Barcelona, Spain, for the loan of the Fred Wilson, mixed-media, C-print & video Picasso/Whose Rules? (1991). The exhibition at the Picasso Museu, consisting of 70 works, will run March 6 – June 29. The exhibition will continue into the fall at a second, to-be-determined museum in Europe.
The Foundation signed a loan agreement on January 8 for 15 works of art to the University San Diego for the exhibition, “Game Changer #1,” at the Student Pavilion, February 11 – March 1.
The Foundation loaned Guillermo Kuitca artwork to the San Diego Museum of Art on January 30 for exhibition, April 4 – October 4.
The Foundation signed a loan agreement on October 4 with University of San Diego for “Game Changer #2,” a loan of 20 Foundation works for a major exhibition at the Student Pavilion, February 2 – March 1.
The Foundation signed a loan agreement on August 24 with MCASD for a loan of four major Foundation artworks including an eight-piece room installation, Table and Its Belongings, by Nelson Leirner and three other large works for exhibition at MCASD, November 14 – February 2, 2014.
Strauss Trust Collection made a loan to the Foundation of Yin Xiuzhen, Untitled Clothes, from August 8 – December 31, 2014.
The Foundation acquired five art works by David Altmejd, Thu Van Tran, Mel Chin, Kahn & Selesnick, and Elliott Hundley.
On December 31, Matthew and Iris Strauss gifted one work of art by Frank Stella to the Foundation.
Art under control of the Foundation was 66 art works including 49 gifts from Strauss Collection and 17 Foundation purchases, including two gifts to MCASD.
The number of visitors for the year was 446 guests, comprised of 17 visits to the Foundation Gallery. The exhibition of 15 works from the Foundation at the University of San Diego drew 1,010 visitors for a total of 1,456 visitors/viewers of the Foundation’s art for the year.
